Happy New Year!

We have all been sending texts and emails wishing one another Happy New Year!

On my text I included the Bible reference Philippians 4:4-9. “May you always be joyful in your union with the Lord. I say it again: rejoice! Show a gentle attitude towards everyone. The Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God’s peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus. In conclusion, my brothers and sisters, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honourable. Put into practise what you learnt and received from me, both from my words and from my actions. And the God who gives us peace will be with you.” (Good News version)

Faith is a gift from God. But we need to use it when we have it. It’s no good leaving it just for Sundays. We need to exercise our faith muscles every day. In this passage Paul shows us how – it is in having a thankful attitude, looking for the good, trusting in God, and focusing our thinking and emotions on good, healthy things. If you want a Happy New Year, the best way is to set aside some time everyday, to read the Bible, and talk with God.  If you are a new Christian, avoid things and people who are negative and pull you down. All of us should be careful what we watch and read, especially on the internet. In this way, in rejoicing and thankfulness, the God of all peace, will be with you!
