Upstairs, in the Church, we will have a special worship service for Ash Wednesday at 11.30am.
But what is Ash Wednesday??
It is the first day of the 40 days leading to Easter. ( If you check on the calendar, you will see more than 40 days, but we don’t count the Sundays!)
On this day, we remember that our bodies will die. As we came from dust, (like Adam was created from the dust of the earth), so we will all go back to dust. Our only hope is in God, who saves us through our Lord Jesus Christ.
We take some ash – made from burning last year’s Palm Crosses – and make the sign of the cross on each other’s forehead. A symbol of being sorry for the sin that separates us from God and from each other. We commit ourselves to follow Jesus on his journey to the cross and from there to resurrection on Easter Sunday.
