I love pancakes… and you are probably thinking I’m two days late. Well yes I am, but Tuesday wasn’t a convenient date for my party and so will be celebrating Pancake Day tomorrow!
But there is a serious side to Shrove Tuesday. The word ‘Srove’ comes from an old word ‘Shrive’ To Shrive means to confess one’s sins. So Shrove Tuesday is the day of preparation for Lent. Some people use the day to meet with their priest or spiritual director to say their formal confession. Other traditions within the Church of England would say confession privately.
Whatever you choose to do…. I hope you took the opportunity to celebrate on Tuesday night, unless you are joining me tomorrow. The Christian faith is serious, but is also fun… pancakes…… mmmmh… can you ever have enough?
Sadly priest are now compelled by law to disclose some things they hear in confessions.
Enjoy preparing pancakes tomorrow. We were surprised that the hotel in Italy did not serve pancakes last Tuesday so we will have ours when we get home. Better late than never!
