Josephine Butler

220px-Josephine_Butler_-_portraitJosephine Butler was a social reformer, particularly with regards to women and children’s rights. She fought hard to prevent children being taken into prostitution and provided help and support to women who found they had little choice but to sell their sexual services. She ran refuges for prostitutes, providing them with education and health care and the opportunity to escape poverty by finding new and better paid work.
